Bradway is in the South-West corner of Sheffield with several bus and rail connections close by. How close depends on where you live - and whether you feel fit enough to walk up and down some of Sheffield's hilly streets!

Bus and train routes, timetables and fares are linked below!

BUS

South Sheffield route map from October 2021 is here - zoom in for details

The principal route from Bradway is the 25 run by Stagecoach down to Longford Road. Some 24s, run by the First Group, also go to and from Bradway (although most terminate at Low Edges, except for early mornings, evenings and at weekends). Both start from the Old Mother Redcap terminus. From there 24 and 25 diverge slightly through Low Edges, but take the same route from Meadowhead into town, then go on different routes towards Woodhouse (to the South-East) - a direction few Bradway residents normally travel! Buses should be every 12 minutes during the day, Monday - Friday.

Some prefer walking down to Abbeydale Road South to catch a First 97 or 98, both of which offer daytime buses every 30 minutes. That should mean a bus every 15 minutes at the stops by Dore Station or Totley Brook, at the bottom of Bushey Wood Road. The climb back up certainly keeps us fit and warm even on the coldest winter days! Evening and weekend buses may be only half hourly.

The M17 run by Hulleys of Baslow has an hourly daytime service Monday-Saturday connecting us to Dore and Totley to the west, and Greenhill, Low Edges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe to the east. Handy for the St James Retail Park.

TM Travel's 218 runs along Abbeydale Road South every 30 minutes towards Peak District destinations like Chatsworth and Bakewell. It goes into town via Abbey Lane, Ecclesall Road South and Psalter Lane. It's a good bus to get to and from town, especially if using the main bus or railway stations.

FARES - All Sheffield day and season ticket prices, multi journey, and multiple bus company tickets are here, information compiled by Andrew Cullen.

Stagecoach's Family Day Rider Gold costs £12., including all Stagecoach services in South & West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Gainsborough and is valid for groups of up to 2 adults and 3 children travelling together. From Bradway this can be used to catch the X17 GOLD service Sheffield-Chesterfield-Matlock at Meadowhead.

Sheffield Community Transport offer a range of Door 2 Door transport services designed particularly for people who find it very difficult or impossible to use public transport.
TRAIN
The quickest way into town is by train from Dore & Totley station, normally taking 7 or 8 minutes. Unfortunately stopping trains are infrequent. However, there are 3 trains into town between 8 and 8.30, and hourly trains out at evening commuter times.

More rail commuters go to Manchester and Stockport each day than to Sheffield. Fast trains for Sheffield and Manchester stop after commuting times.

There are direct services to Meadowhall, Manchester Airport, Doncaster, Cleethorpes, Liverpool, Nottingham, Peterborough, Cambridge and Norwich. They pass through every hour to all those destinations, and some do stop. Careful timetable examination is needed, otherwise it means changing in Sheffield.

Some Bradway residents may commute to Nottingham or Leeds. Dronfield station offers an hourly service to both.

London trains are best caught from Chesterfield. Some Cross-Country destinations can also be accessed there, but all can be caught in Sheffield, with through trains to Penzance, Glasgow, Southampton and a host of other places along the way.

Rail timetables are here;

Sheffield - Manchester stopping trains - does not include fast  trains that stop for commuters, see below.

Sheffield - Doncaster & Cleethorpes and Manchester & Manchester Airport fast trains - some fast trains stop at Dore, but for most you may need to go into Sheffield first to change!

Nottingham - Chesterfield - Dronfield - Sheffield - Meadowhall - Barnsley - Wakefield - Leeds

TRAVEL BARGAINS
Regular commuters are aware of weekly and monthly season tickets on both bus and rail.
Leisure travellers heading out into Derbyshire or to Manchester should look carefully at the Wayfarer tickets available after 9.30
(anytime Saturday, Sunday and public holidays). You may have to go to Grindleford, Hathersage or Sheffield city centre to qualify or buy tickets, but there can be some big savings on standard tickets. As an example, from Hathersage on the 9.31 stopping train you can travel anywhere to and in Greater Manchester by train, bus or tram for £14.40 - £9.50 for concessionary travellers and £7.00 for children 5-15, or £28.80 for 2 adults and up to 2 children.
